How To: Modify the 240SX
TB Linkage to fit the Stock L6 Intake
Applications:
240SX Top Cooled Throttle Body
|
Step 1
Figure out which type of 240SX throttle body you have. This
instruction set pertains only to the Top Cooled version. The
Bottom Cooled version will be published mid-May. |
 |
Step 2
Prepare a working surface and set out the stock TB. |
 |
Step 3
Using a 12mm box-end wrench, remove the nut on the
end of the throttle plate shaft. |
 |
Step 4
Remove the extra spring (if present), and release
the tension in the coil spring on the shaft. |
 |
Step 5
Remove the ball-link arm and spring assembly. Lay
out the removed pieces in order of removal.
|
 |
Step 6
Start work on the 240SX TB.
Using a 12mm box-end wrench, remove the nut on the
end of the throttle plate shaft.
|
 |
Step 7
Remove E-clip from spring supporting shaft.
Proceed to remove the linkage and springs, but leave
the last metal stopper in place.
|
 |
Step 8
Remove the fixed shaft with a cutting tool. Dremel
tools work nicely for this task. A hack saw may
also be used.
|
 |
 |
Step 9
Mark the shaft 16mm from the stop plate.
|
 |
Step 10
Obtain an 8mm x 1mm die to thread the shaft. Using
a die wrench (if available) or a 1" wrench, thread
the shaft until the die's face lines up with the
previously drawn mark at
16mm.
|
 |
 |
Step 11
Mark the shaft 31mm from the stop plate. |
 |
Step 12
Cut the shaft at the 31mm mark using a cutting tool. Dremel
tools work nicely for this task as well. A hack
saw may again be used.
Re-run the die on the shaft to remove any burrs from
cutting the shaft. |
 |
Step 13
Using the pieces removed from the old TB,
reinstall them in reverse order onto the 240SX TB.
Attached the outer end of the spring, but not the inner
yet. |
 |
 |
Step 14
Use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the other end
of the spring over the idle adjustment screw. |
 |
Step 15
TB linkage conversion is complete if the water lines
are to be used. |
 |
Step 16
One further step can be to remove the water line from
the top of the throttle body. To do this, just cut
along the red line as indicated. |
